Walter Terry Heflen, age 76, a resident of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Maury Regional Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 13, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Heritage Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Ledbetter officiating. Burial will follow at Moses Cemetery in Chapel Hill. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 12, 2026, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM and again on Monday from 10:00 AM until the service hour at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on September 12, 1949, in Maury County, Tennessee, Terry was the son of the late Roy A. Heflen and the late Gladys Underwood Heflen. He graduated from high school in Columbia before continuing his education at Columbia State Community College, where he earned an associate degree. Throughout his career, he worked for Lowe's, Piggly Wiggly, Giant Foods, and AutoZone, where he retired after many years of dedicated service.
A faithful member of Liberty Baptist Church for many years, Terry treasured his church family and his relationship with the Lord. He enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. Above all else, Terry cherished his family, and the time he spent with them brought him his greatest joy.
He is survived by his loving wife, Connie Flowers Heflen; son, Troy (Lori) Hughes; daughter, Amy Pratt; brother, David (Libby) Heflen; sister, Donna (Danny Ray) Goldman; grandchildren, Faith Hughes (Logan Hill), Tyler (McKenzie) Hughes, Emma Pratt, and Jackson Pratt; and great-grandson, Deluca Hughes.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Patsy Kelley; his brother, Larry Heflen; and his brother-in-law, Buford Kelley.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Hughes, Lane Kelly, Caleb Kelly, Scott Goldman, Brian Goldman, and Danny Ray Goldman. Honorary pallbearers will be Jackson Pratt, Troy Hughes, Tyler Goldman, Logan Hill, and the members of Liberty Baptist Church.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the physicians, nurses, and staff of the Critical Care Unit and Step-Down Unit at Maury Regional Medical Center, as well as the compassionate caregivers of Compassus, for the exceptional care, kindness, and support shown to Terry and his family.
