Timothy Joseph Loughery, age 64, a resident of Chapel Hill, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 19, 2026, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

A memorial mass will be held on Thursday, April 23rd at 11:00 AM at the Catholic Church of the Nativity in Thompson’s Station with Father Jerry Strange officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in Maury Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends on Thursday from 10:00 AM until the service hour at the church. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Tim was born on May 5, 1961, in Rock Island, Illinois, and was the son of the late Daniel Joseph Loughery and the late Jeanette Mae Struble Loughery.

Tim was a man who spent his life building, fixing, and nurturing the world around him. He had steady hands, a sharp mind, and a heart that belonged entirely to his family and community. Thoughtful, patient, and wise, he had a natural gift for teaching and was known as the best kind of instructor—gentle, encouraging, and devoted.

Though he was a loving husband and a proud father to his two sons, his love extended far beyond those roles. To his daughters-in-law, he was not just family—he was a second father. To his grandchildren, he was the legendary “Papa,” a master of imagination who hand-drew detailed treasure maps, led grand scavenger hunts, and helped create the biggest sandcastles. He was attentive and intentional, always making time to create lasting memories.

Tim was funny, thoughtful, and never took a good moment for granted. He loved sharing meals with his family and savored every bite, always finding a perfectly good reason to enjoy an extra slice of pie.

He was a steady source of strength and encouragement to his sons, loving them wholeheartedly and always taking the time to listen. A gifted handyman, Tim could fix anything, but his greatest projects were never made of wood or stone—they were his relationships. Above all, he was a devoted husband, the best a woman could dream of, and a constant, comforting presence in the lives of those he loved.

Along with his loving wife of 40 years, Brenda Whatley Loughery, he is survived by his sons, Zachary (Mercy) Loughery and Luke (Edmarie) Loughery; brothers, Brian Loughery and Michael Loughery; grandchildren, Zoé, Logan, and Lillian Loughery, with one precious grandchild on the way; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to Church of the Nativity Building Fund, 2793 Buckner Ln, Thompson's Station, TN 37179 in honor of Tim Loughery.
