Teresa was born in Pulaski, Tennessee, on August 27, 1960, and was the daughter of Jim Carpenter and the late Margaret Ellen King Carpenter. She graduated from Central High School in 1979. Teresa worked in medical records at Maury Regional Medical Center for more than 15 years until her health declined. Teresa loved the Lord, and one of her favorite sayings was, “God is good all the time.” She held tightly to this belief throughout her illness. She was a longtime member of St. Luke United Methodist Church and enjoyed going out to eat every Sunday after church with her special friends. Teresa never met a stranger and was known for her warm, joyful personality. Her greatest joy was spending time with children. She was lovingly known as “Tesa” or “Big Teese” to all her nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Along with her father, Jim Carpenter, she is survived by her brother, Terry (Annette) Carpenter of Columbia; sister, Tammy (Dwayne) Grooms of Rainbow City, AL; sister-in-laws, Melanie (Gene) Fields and Valerie Dixon; nieces and nephews, DJ (Kylie) Grooms, Kayla (Brooks) Robinson, Janet (Eric) Murphy, Heather (Shane) Sherrill, Kenny (Lois) Carpenter, and Miranda Roberts; great-nieces and great-nephews, Easton Grooms, Enzlie Grooms, Kade Robinson, Maxen Robinson, Jaxton Robinson, Lucas Robinson, Hank Murphy, Hayden Sherrill, Paisley Sherrill, Knox Sherrill, and Aprill Hall; and great-great-nephew, Weston Hall; and a host of her late husband’s nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her special friend, Barbara Rountree, along with her “second sisters,” Sharon Sharp, Debra Thomas, and Shelia Rogers.
In addition to her mother, Margaret Carpenter, she was preceded in death by her husband, Keith Dixon, in 2018.
Pallbearers will be DJ Grooms, Easton Grooms, Brooks Robinson, Kade Robinson, Kenny Carpenter, Shane Sherrill, and Eric Murphy. Honorary pallbearers include Enzlie Grooms, Maxen Robinson, Jaxton Robinson, Lucas Robinson, Hank Murphy, Hayden Sherrill, Paisley Sherrill, Knox Sherrill, and Aprill Hall, along with all members of St. Luke United Methodist Church.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
