Stan Smith

October 22, 1959 — April 18, 2024

Stanley “Stan” Robert Smith, age 64, a cherished resident of Columbia, passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at Maury Regional Medical Center.

Born in Houston, Missouri, Stan was the beloved son of Cleta Maria Grogan Smith and the late Robert Dean Smith. He pursued his education at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Arkansas, where he not only earned his bachelor's degree but also made a mark on the football field. It was during his time at university that Stan crossed paths with the love of his life, Lesa, and their bond endured for 44 beautiful years of marriage.

Stan's dedication extended beyond his personal life into his professional endeavors. As Chief Juvenile Officer, he served his community in West Plains, Missouri, with unwavering commitment, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues and those under his care. His faith was an integral part of his life, reflected in his role as a deacon at a Baptist church and later as an active member at Church of the City. Additionally, Stan was known for his involvement in the Rotary Club, as well as a multitude of other community organizations, where his contributions made a positive impact on the lives of many.

A man who loved life, Stan found joy in the great outdoors. Hunting and fishing trips with his retired juvenile officer friends provided cherished moments of camaraderie and adventure. The family farm in Eunice, Missouri, held a special place in his heart, where he found solace and peace in the tranquility of rural life.

Above all, Stan cherished his role as a loving husband, father, son, and grandfather. His devotion to his family was evident in every aspect of his life, and he leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth that will forever be remembered. Stan adored his grandchildren Sophie and Brooks, and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with them, helping them do the things they enjoyed, and never missed an event. He was a dedicated follower of Christ and was an incredibly kind and generous person.

Stan is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Lesa Smith, his beloved daughter Kristi (Josh) Drummond of Murfreesboro, and his cherished grandchildren, Sophie and Brooks Drummond.

A private family service will be held to lay Stan to rest at a later date in West Plains, Missouri, where his roots lie.
