Ruthellen Utter, age 80, of Belfast, Tennessee, passed away at her home on the evening of Wednesday, June 18, 2025, under the loving watch of her family.
Ruthellen was born in Holyoke, Massachusetts, on March 10, 1945, and eventually settled in Huntsville, Alabama, where she met the love of her life and started her own family. When her children were older, she earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Athens State University. She loved books, flowers, dancing, animals, classical music, and opera. Often known as Mimae in her later years, Ruthellen was a strong, spirited, independent woman and a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who was happiest while visiting her beloved Saint George Island with her loved ones. She was a loyal and supportive friend to many.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Lillian Frenier. She is survived by her soulmate and devoted husband of 59 years, Bill; her sons Nicholas and Victor; daughter-in-law Laura; granddaughters Tessa Hagwood and husband Nathan; Sasha, Sophia, Julianne, and Lucy Utter; great-grandson Jackson Hagwood and wife Bella; great-granddaughter June Hagwood, and dearly loved cousin Donald Szewcyzk, all of whom she leaves with a lifetime of treasured memories.
