Russell “Russ” Hastings, age 78, of Culleoka, Tennessee, died at Maury Regional Hospital on Saturday, March 4, 2023.
He was a native of Detroit, Michigan, born in 1944 to the late Donald Hastings and Ida Farmer. Russ served his country in the United States Navy, spending time on the USS Constellation (CVA 64). He was honorably discharged in 1967 and received several medals and awards, including the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. Russ was a skilled trades automobile manufacturing electrician at Ford Motor Company, where he retired in 2020. Russ was a kind-hearted Christian who was giving and always willing to help someone in need. Russ' favorite pastime was fishing, and he looked forward to "wetting" a line whenever possible.
Russ is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jackie; two sons, Don Hastings and Jeffrey Hastings; five daughters, DeAnna Hastings, Angela Hastings, Veronica (John) Marshall, Rachelle Khalil (Tez Jones), and Stephanie (Jon) Witte; three stepchildren, Roger (Debbie) Fox, Shannon (Nathan) Polk, and Jason (Tracy) Fox; brother, Frank Hastings, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Mary Alexander, and brother, Jim Hastings.
Visitation will be held at Heritage Funeral Home on Saturday, March 11, 2023, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, with a Memorial service to follow. The United States Navy will provide military Honors, and he will be laid to rest in Maury Memorial Gardens.
