Roger H. Gilliam, age 53, husband of Wendy Woods Gilliam, and a resident of Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Maury Regional Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Rock Jaggers officiating. Following the service, he will be laid to rest in Arlington Cemetery. A visitation will also be held on Saturday from 12:00 – 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
Born on December 7, 1972, in Columbia, Tennessee, Roger was the son of George and Sheila Workman Gilliam. He was a 1991 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School and spent his early years working on the farm. He later devoted many years to a career as a truck driver. Roger loved life on the road; driving his 18-wheeler allowed him to see the world, and ultimately led him to fall in love with Wendy. The two were married on December 31, 2014.
Roger was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed deer and dove hunting and could fix just about anything he put his hands on. He had a special bond with his beloved dog, Gizmo, who passed away a couple of years ago. Roger and Wendy attended Community Hampshire Church, where they both were rebaptized together in 2025.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by his children, Andrew Gilliam, Hannah (Michael) Barger, Shelby (Nick) Vandygriff, Sydney (Nikki) Thomason, Harley Gilliam, Roger “Buddy” Gilliam, Jr., mother in law, Faye Woods, brothers, Todd (Scarlett) Gilliam, Clay (Jennifer) Gilliam, grandchildren, Korileigh Thomason, Timothy Barger, Bubba Gannon Vandygriff, Haddison Vandygriff, Ella Barger, Woody Thomason, Slate “Buddy” Thomason, Rocklyn “Rocky” Thomason, and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, George & Mary Ann Gilliam, Richard & Jean Workman, father in law, Randolph “Randy” Woods, and sister in law, Rhonda Woods.
Those serving as pallbearers will be Andrew Gilliam, Michael Workman, Robby McKennon, Randy Bratton, Chris Beckum, Josh Vaughn, Danny Chapman, and TJ Chapman. His beloved grandchildren and Michael “Buck” Luttrell will serve as honorary pallbearers.
