Raymond Arthur Payne, age 82, devoted husband of Dorothy Overbaugh Payne, and a resident of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, March 16, 2026, at his residence.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Bro. Bob Vassar officiating. Military honors will be provided by the United States Army. A visitation will also be held on Sunday from 1:00 – 2:00 PM at the funeral home.

Born on October 11, 1943, in Syracuse, New York, Ray was the son of the late Raymond Payne and the late Marjorie Lavencher Payne Stewart. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served from 1960 – 1963. On October 1, 1966, he married his best friend and love of his life, Dorothy, and together they shared nearly sixty wonderful years. Ray worked for General Motors for thirty years before retiring in 2000.

Ray had a passion for flying model airplanes and enjoyed playing chess and card games. Known for his selfless nature, he would do anything for anyone. Ray was a happy, kindhearted, and loving man who never judged others. Most of all, he cherished his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Heather (Timothy “TJ”) Brown, granddaughter, Kelsie Rebeor (fiancé, Jordan Cole), great grandchild, Dylan Cole, and numerous nieces, nephews, brother in law and sisters in law.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Dylan Rebeor, and two sisters.
