Melissa Anne Downey

Melissa Anne Downey, 66, passed away unexpectedly on August 27, 2026.

Melissa was born on August 21, 1960, and was raised in Mount Pleasant, Tennessee. She was the daughter of the late Ward and Marjorie Downey. Melissa was a daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose life was filled with many chapters, experiences, and memories that will remain with those who knew and loved her.

Melissa is survived by her two daughters, Jennifer Scales and her husband, Lee Scales, and Crystal Cates and her husband, Daniel Cates; her sister, Marsha Downey; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; along with extended family and loved ones.

Melissa's life was made up of many seasons—some filled with happiness and cherished memories, and others marked by struggles and challenges. Through it all, she left behind a story that will continue through the family she leaves behind and the memories shared by those who knew her. Though life sometimes takes people down different paths and creates distance, the love we have for family and the memories we carry with us can endure through the years. Melissa will be remembered in her own special way by each person whose life she touched. Her memory will live on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, and loved ones. May she now find the peace she deserves and be free from the struggles of this life.
