Lillian Lois Gunter, age 83, a resident of Hohenwald, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday evening, April 23, 2026, at her residence.

Born on July 2, 1942, in Hohenwald, Tennessee, Lillian was the daughter of the late Elmer Tanner and the late Annie Maude Constant Tanner. On January 9, 1960, she married the love of her life, Hershal Ray Gunter, and together they shared forty-one wonderful years of marriage until his passing on May 15, 2001. Lillian was a devout Jehovah’s Witness and lived her faith with strength and devotion.

A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Lillian was known for her warm hospitality, and her home was always open to anyone. She took great pride in her appearance, making sure her hair, makeup, and nails were always just right. She had a love for flowers and was a gifted cook. She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her daughter, Anita Johnston, son, Matthew Gunter, brothers, Jerry (Peggy) Tanner, Michael (Karyn) Tanner, sisters, Teresa Kennedy, Rebecca Tanner, sisters in law, Linda Tanner, Glenda Tanner, grandchildren, Derrick (Melissa) Johnston, Nicole (Bobby) Webb, Alex (Sarah) Gunter, Eli (Raven) Gunter, great grandchildren, Isaac (Taylor) Webb, Ashton Webb, Davin (Zoey) Johnston, Emma Johnston, Cole Runions, Jake (Rose) Runions, great great grandchildren, Braxton Webb, Blakeleigh Nau, Timmy Nau, Jacey Ball, Beau Runions, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Timothy Ray Gunter, daughter in law, Sherry Gunter, brothers, Leman Tanner, Alton Tanner, Ronnie Tanner, sister in law, Virginia Tanner, brother in law, Steve Kennedy, grandchild, Lilly Gunter, and great grandchild, Logan Webb.

The family will hold a celebration of life at a later date. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
