Larry D. Sewell

Mr. Larry Donald Sewell, age 76, of Columbia, passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Maury Regional Medical Center.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 24th at 12:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, with Rick Points officiating. Burial will follow at Maury Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the service hour. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born in Russellville, Alabama, Larry was the son of the late Homer D. Sewell and Mary Ellene Fulton Sewell. He was a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University and served the State of Tennessee for 35 years in a distinguished career marked by integrity, innovation, and dedication.

A true Renaissance man, Larry excelled in both mind and body. He was a Southeastern boxing champion, a national record-holder in the squat, and an active member of the Amateur Athletic Union. A gifted precision machinist and master gunsmith, Larry designed and manufactured cutting-edge weight and physical therapy equipment used in hospitals across the region, including Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Larry was known not only for his many talents but also for his inventive spirit, quick wit, and generous heart. He treated everyone with respect and kindness, always ready to lend a hand or share a story. His devotion to family and friends ran deep, and his legacy will live on in the lives of those he touched.

He is survived by his sister, Andrea (Nicky) Harmon of Columbia; niece, Emily (Hunter) Clark; nephews, Josh Moore and Matthew (Samantha) Moore; great-nephew, Cohen Clark; and dear friends Patrick King and Ethan King, Kim Sharpton, along with many beloved cousins and lifelong friends.

Pallbearers will be Andy Harvey, Ricky Jones, Michael “Bubba” Lentz, Matthew Moore, Joshua Moore, and Patrick King. Honorary pallbearers include Monte Bayless, Ben Bayless, Fred Baker, and Doug Johnson.
