Mr. Joseph Howard Garland, age 86, a resident of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Joseph Howard Garland was born on September 10, 1939, in his home in Lawrence County, Tennessee. He attended Lawrence County School System. He was married to his wife, Glenda Garland, for sixty-two years. Joseph was a veteran of the United States Army having served two years. He retired from Columbia Machine Works on September 2, 2016, after working as a Master Welder for forty-nine years. He loved being outdoors, gardening, fishing, hunting, and going to races, especially with his family. He loved the Lord and was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church in Columbia, Tennessee.
Joseph Howard Garland is survived by his wife, Glenda Walters Garland, his daughter, Vicky (Adam) Marshall, three grandchildren, Brandon (Katie) Marshall, Chelsea (Trever) Smith, and Joseph Cameron Marshall, and two great grandchildren, Kinsley Marshall and Karsen Marshall. He is also survived by sisters in law, Doris Garland and Shirley Garland and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Angela Garland, parents, George Lasson Garland and Lillie Beatrice Self Garland, and his five siblings, Lucille Gray, James Garland, JW Garland, Charles Garland, Ray Garland, nephew, Joel Garland, and niece, Sharon Norwood.
The visitation will be held at Heritage Funeral Home in Columbia, Tennessee, on Friday, March 20, 2026, from 12:00 – 2:00 PM. The funeral will be held at 2:00 PM. Following the service, the burial will take place for family and close friends at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee with military honors provided by the United States Army.
Pallbearers will be David Chapman, Terry Cotham, Jason Smith, Ronny Sheeter, John Gray, and Paul W. Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will include the former and current employees of Columbia Machine Works.
