Janey Shaw Shiarla, 75, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 15, 2025.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday November 22, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home with Brother Don Morris officiating. A visitation will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m and Saturday, November 22, 2025 at 12:00 pm. at the funeral home.
Born on February 19, 1950 in Napoleon, Ohio to Roger E. and Mary Jo Miller. She was a 1968 graduate of Holgate High School in Holgate, Ohio. She earned her bachelor of science degree from Defiance College in Defiance, Ohio in May 1972 in elementary education and completed her masters degree in May 1996 in preschool special education from Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.with a 4.0 GPA. She was an interim kindergarten and sixth grade teacher at Ayersville Local School in Ayersville, Ohio in 1986 and 1987. After moving to Columbia,Tennessee in August 1987, she was a substitute and interim teacher for Maury County Schools through 1990. She was a 3 year old preschool special education teacher at Kings Daughters school in Columbia, TN from 1991 through 1993, an assistant director / lead teacher at Highland Park preschool / daycare in Columbia, TN from 1993 through 1996, a preschool special education 3 through 5 year old teacher for Lawrence County Schools in Lawrenceburg, TN from 1996 through 2001, and a preschool special education 3 through 5 year old teacher at Baker Elementary School in Columbia, TN from 2001 until she retired in 2012. After retirement and the passing of her late husband, she moved to Murfreesboro, TN to be near her three children. She lived life to the fullest. She attended many Blackman, Christiana, and Riverdale elementary, middle and highschool baseball, cheer, softball, and football games and events supporting all six of her grandchildren. When she was not helping or cheering on the grandchildren, she was very involved with church and social activities. She loved quilting, bird watching, gardening, line dancing, water aerobics, attending concerts, walking 5ks, hosting family get-togethers, traveling, and various organizations. She was always "game" for trying any new activity, restaurant, or adventure. She was also very generous and volunteered her time for her church and various organizations.
She is survived by her two daughters, Jennifer Shiarla (Shannon Holcomb) of Columbia, TN, Laura (Michael) Weimann of Murfreesboro, TN and her son, Jacob (Delynn) Shiarla of Murfreesboro, TN; her six grandchildren, Jordan Newman, Kristina Hughes, Jay Shiarla, J.C. (Hannah) Newman, Rainey Shiarla, and Leah Hughes, two great grandchildren, Andrew Hawk and Kensleigh Newman all of Murfreesboro, TN; and 6 bonus grandchildren, Gage Holcomb and Caleb Holcomb of Columbia, TN, Ethan (Emma) Holcomb of Mt. Pleasant, TN, Dory Holcomb of Columbia, TN, Jacob (Leah) Weimann of Salt Lake City, UT, and Dustin Weimann of Metropolis, IL; her sister, Suzanne Snider of Grafton, Ohio and her brother, Steven (Susanne) Miller of Defiance, OH.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hal Shiarla of Columbia, TN.
Pallbearers will be Jay Shiarla, J.C. Newman, Mike Wiemann, Shannon Holcomb, Matt Shiarla, and Mark Shiarla. Honorary pallbearers will be Tim Shiarla, Christian Pittman, Gage Holcomb, and Caleb Holcomb.
