James Allen Dodson, affectionately known as “Bubba,” age 63, a resident of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Maury Regional Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 18, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home with Sammy Walters officiating. Burial will follow in Santa Fe Cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the service hour at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born in Columbia, Tennessee, James was the son of the late Jimmy Dodson—who preceded him in death on April 23rd of this year—and Noma Jean Walters Dodson. A 1981 graduate of Santa Fe High School. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, “piddling” in the yard, and trying his luck with the lottery. Known for spoiling the little ones in his life, he delighted in giving them all the gum and candy they could want and taking them on special trips to $5 Below. Bubba had a lifelong love of dogs and, humorously, named each and every one of his beloved companions “Charlie.” His most recent Charlie, along with all who knew him will miss him.
Along with his mother, Noma Jean Walters Dodson, he is survived by his daughter, Destiny (Brandon) Jones; sisters, Gina Dodson Beard and Tina (Steven) Butler; brothers, Troy Dodson and Mark Dodson; grandchildren, Hailey (Matthew) Hill, Austin Hazlett, and Kaleb Hazlett; aunts, Shirley Hanback, Jean Ann Layne, and Judy (Ross) Orr; his special little sidekick, Molly Butler; several nieces and nephews; and his loyal dog, Charlie.
Along with his father he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Mike Beard.
Pallbearers will be Darian Harvey, Devin Webb, Bracken Dodson, Brandon Dodson, Ben Andrews, and Brandon Jones.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the first responders, nurses, and doctors at Maury Regional Medical Center, as well as special family member Nicole Scott, for their care and compassion.
