Mr. James Carl “Blue” Davis, age 74, a resident of Columbia, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at NHC Columbia.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Pastor Howard Rucker officiating. Following the service, he will be laid to rest in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens. A lie in state will be held on Friday, April 10th from 12-4pm at the funeral home. A visitation will also be held on Saturday from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the funeral home.
Born on July 13, 1951, in Spring Hill, Tennessee, James was the son of the late Bailey Fulton Davis, Jr. and the late Sara Frances Sanders Davis. He was educated in the Maury County School System and graduated from Spring Hill High School. James dedicated more than thirty years to his work as a welder with CSX Railroad before retiring. He was also a member of Shady Grove Primitive Baptist Church.
James was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan and loved hosting cookouts, happily grilling all year round. Known for his kind heart, he was always willing to lend a hand and never hesitated to help others.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Jean Byrd, daughter, Margie (Timmie) Trent, brothers, Bobby Joe (Shirleen G.) Davis, Willie Donell (Claudette) Davis, Curtis Allen, sisters, Mary Brown, Chandra (Jeffrey) Baxter, Delores Ann Knox, Juritha Brent, uncle, Louis Eli (Margaret) Sanders, grandchild, Aaron “AJ” Trent, step children, Rhonda Bailey, Felicia McAllister, and Reggie Bailey, step grandchildren, Malik Church, Mondrekas Witherspoon, Keidron McAllister, and Keiondre McAllister, 8 step great grandchildren, and a host of loving friends, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to his close friends, Ronald and Angela McKenney, for their love and support.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Alvin Lee Davis.
