Jackie Attkisson, age 74, a resident of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at his residence, surrounded by his family.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at 11:00am at Heritage Funeral Home with Ronnie Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Unity Cemetery in Lawrenceburg with military honors provided by the United States Army. The family will visit with friends on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM with a masonic service beginning at 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on September 26, 1950, Jackie was the son of the late Robert Solon Attkisson and the late Mattie Pearl Attkisson. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and later in the Tennessee Army National Guard, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel after a distinguished 34-year career, which included a deployment to Afghanistan from 2004 to 2005. He also served the State of Tennessee for 32 years as a dedicated State Trooper and was a proud member of the Bethesda Lodge #201.

In 1987, Jackie and his brother Campbell founded Attkisson Lock and Security Company, which they operated together until 2004. Jackie earned a master’s degree in business and was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to service.

Jackie had a deep love for the outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and spending time on the farm with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He cherished the time spent with his brothers in the Highway Patrol and the fellow servicemen he served alongside throughout the years.

He is survived by his loving wife, Neva Larie Daniels Attkisson of Columbia; his children: Heath (Paige) Attkisson of Alabama, Shaen (Lela) Attkisson of Columbia, William Gabriel Attkisson of Tennessee, and Kerri (Beth) Attkisson of Columbia; his brother, Campbell (Bobbie Lou) Attkisson of Columbia; his grandchildren: Zoe (Rodney) Attkisson, Jessica (Chris) Pettigrew, Breanna (Cain) Vinson, Ashley (Preston) Attkisson, Caleb Attkisson, Cambria Attkisson, Mason Dilliha, Landon Attkisson, Charley Attkisson, and Gunner Attkisson; and his great-grandchildren: Henleigh Simmons, Brixton Dewire, Keeley Dewire, Rylan Dewire, Braylee Pettigrew, Hayden Pettigrew, Lana Pettigrew, Aubrey McCandless, Eva Pettigrew, Malachi Burney, Dalton Crowell, Collin Vinson, Camden Vinson, Casen Vinson, and Beckett Yokley-Owens.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Glenn Attkisson, Christine Fletcher, Ken Attkisson, Patsy Hayes, Dudley Attkisson, and Ted Attkisson.

Pallbearers will be Caleb Attkisson, Josh Attkisson, Jason Attkisson, Landon Attkisson, Justin Smith, and Rodney Dewire.

Jackie will be remembered for his leadership, devotion to service, and above all, his love for his family and country.
