Jack Vasser Atnip, age 83, husband of Virginia “Suzie” Hazelton Atnip, and a resident of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, October 13, 2023, at Maury Regional Medical Center.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM with funeral service beginning at 1:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Teresa and Steve Shauf officiating. He will be laid to rest in Maury Memorial Gardens at a later date. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Jack was born on October 9, 1940, in Huntsville, Alabama, and was the son of the late Benjamin Richard Atnip and the late Florence Virginia Vasser Atnip. He graduated from Sparkman High School in Alabama in 1961.
Jack embarked on his professional journey as a welder with NASA before embarking on the road as a Field Superintendent for American Chain & Cable (ACCO), where he oversaw projects across the United States. His career even took him to Wales for nearly a year. In his final professional role, he served as a Superintendent for Durr Corporation before retiring in 2006.
Jack and Suzie united in marriage on November 23, 1985, a union filled with love and cherished moments. Jack found joy in fishing, woodworking, and carving, and he was a member of the Wood Den Carvers of Columbia. He was a devout member of Faith Fellowship Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Cindy (Mike) Bryant of Dallas, GA, son, Averil Heath (Angie) Atnip of Lexington, NC, step son, Gary (Robin) Dunkel of Columbia, TN, grandchildren, Tyler (Chelsea) Bryant of Dallas, GA, Shea Bryant of Dallas, GA, Ayla Atnip, Grayson Atnip, five step grandchildren, nine step great grandchildren, siblings, Joyce Elliot of Madison, AL, Nancy (Bobby) Balch of Decatur, AL, Larry (Eleanor) Atnip of Fort Meyers, FL, Jeannie (Grant) Balch of Harvest, AL, and many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Benjamin Scott Atnip, step sons, Glen Dunkel, Carl Dunkel, brother, Richard Atnip, and sisters, Sarah Owens and Peggy Caskey.
