Mrs. Irene Johnson Huckaby, age 98, passed January 6, 2026, at The Bridge Assisted Living of Columbia.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at 2:00pm at Heritage Funeral Home with John Vaughan and Andrew Phillips officiating. Entombment will follow in Maury Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will visit with friends on Sunday from 12:00pm until the service hour at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mrs. Huckaby was born June 23, 1927, in Maury County, Tennessee and was preceded in death by her husband of 80 years, Joe Marshall Huckaby, Jr., her son, Joe Stanley Huckaby, grandson, Conner Marshall Huckaby, granddaughter-in-law, Sarah-Jane Shields Bedwell and her parents Augustus (Gus) Nichols Johnson and Carrie Riggins Johnson.
Mrs. Huckaby was preceded in death by two half-sisters, five half-brothers, and sisters, Margaret Blocker Ashton and Ann Green Haney. She is survived by her sister, Norma Beck Rosson of Columbia, TN. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and currently a member of Graymere Church of Christ.
Mrs. Huckaby attended Beechland School and graduated from Central High School in Columbia, TN. She was a secretary for the Maury County Judge’s Office and retired from the South Central Development District.
Known for many talents, Mrs. Huckaby was best known for her sewing abilities. Whether it was wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses, pageant dresses, curtains or all the numerous outfits she created for her family members and friends, there was not an outfit she couldn’t create and in record time!
Mrs. Huckaby enjoyed travelling and cruising with her husband and family and was blessed to see so many parts of the United States as well as Europe. She loved her family, the Lord and was an inspiration to so many.
Lovingly called Nannie by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, she is survived by her daughters, Judith (Wayne) Everett of Columbia, TN, and Connie (Joe) Bedwell of Columbia, TN, daughter-in-law Jane Huckaby of Austin, TX, grandchildren: Nathan (Lena) McAdams, Mackenzie (Ashby) Green, Joe M. (Julia Nicholson ) Bedwell, Adam (Tyler) Bedwell, Carrie (Drew) McCullough, David Huckaby, Mary (David) Fields, Brad (Kim) Everett, Brian (Laura) Everett and eighteen great grandchildren.
Nannie’s sense of humor and love for her family was never more evident in her journey of life. She will be missed by so many but especially by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank The Bridge Assisted Living Staff for their tireless hours of care and concern for Mrs. Huckaby. A special thank you to our angels on earth, Melissa White and Carol Ann Smith for their exceptional care and love for Nannie, as well as to Compassus for their support.
Active pallbearers will be Nathan McAdams, William McAdams, Joe M. Bedwell, Adam Bedwell, David Huckaby, Barry Beck, Perry Thomas Bowman, and Wayne Everett.
