Gary Lee Wilkinson, 70, of Summertown, Tennessee, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, following an extended illness.
Gary was truly a jack of all trades, dedicating his life to hard work in many fields including heavy equipment operation, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical work. He took great pride in his skills and the work of his hands. He was also a man of the Baptist faith.
In his younger years, Gary found joy in the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He also had a passion for racing and spent time racing in the stock class at Thunderhill Raceway, where he was known by his car number, 58.
In recent years, Gary cherished the time he spent with his daughters, grandchildren, and family. Being surrounded by those he loved brought him great joy.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George Ambie Wilkinson and Thelma Louise “Susie” Wilkinson; his sisters, Glenda Lovell Butler and Teresa Gail Wilkinson; and his grandparents, George and Sally Wilkinson, along with Archie and Thelma Adkins.
Gary is survived by his two daughters, Cary (Lang) Massey and Donna (Moises) Esteban; his eight grandchildren, Shelby and Dalton Hull. Kayleigh Massey, Paisley, Jacob, and Scarlett Bridges, and Josiah and Lillian Pena; his two brothers, Carl Dean (Karen) Wilkinson and Wendall Wilkinson; his three sisters, Pam (Tony) Roundtree, Connie (Paul) Calton, and Georgia (Tommy) Riddle. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and several aunts and uncles.
Pallbearers will be Dalton Hull, Lang Massey, Moises Esteban, Tommy Shaffer, Jacob Love, Bradley Love, Eddie ‘Snooks” Elkins, Darrell Wilkinson.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Bobby Davis, Freddy Davis, Randall Wilkinson, and David Wilkinson.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 1, 2026, from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at Barnesville Baptist Church in Summertown, Tennessee. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the church with burial to follow at Barnesville Baptist Church Cemetery.
