Ester Potts Hill Kinney, age 84, a resident of Santa Fe, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, May 22, 2026, at NHC Columbia.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Ronnie Johnson and Bucky Rowland officiating. Following the service, she will be laid to rest in Santa Fe Cemetery. A visitation will also be held on Tuesday from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on April 8, 1942, in Maury County, Ester was the daughter of the late Calvin Potts, Sr. and the late Josie Byrd Potts. She was a lifelong resident of the Hilltown Community, and there was no other place she’d rather be. Ester found great joy in her work at the sawmill and was a humble, hard-working woman whose greatest devotion was to her family. She was known for her generous heart, always placing the needs of others before her own. A faithful member of Elmore Church of the Nazarene, she cherished her church family and the fellowship she found there.
She is survived by her daughter, Duane (Mike) Barnes, grandson, Clay (Matti) Barnes, sisters, Earline Morrow, Carolyn Potts, special nieces, Tammy Jones, Dana Walters, Briggett Collins, several nephews, and special friends, Destiny Jones, Vickie Barnes, and Kim Sharpton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Billy Hill, second husband, Wayne Kinney, sisters, Ruth Smith, Marie Goodson, Kathleen Mitchell, Audrey Slaughter, and brothers, Robert Potts, R. B. Potts, Junior Potts, Charlie Potts, and Frank Potts.
Those serving as pallbearers will be Shane Potts, Jeff Warren, Phil Stanfill, Hayden Stanfill, Zac Potts, and Bobby Potts. Honorary pallbearers will include Jim Dotson, Sanford McCord, Randy Matlock, Darvin Mitchell, Kenneth Slaughter, Guy Potts, Jeff Potts, Zac Crowell, Cody Slaughter, Brandon Jones, Gilbert Griggs, and Henry “Toot” Jones.
In her final months, Ester shared a simple, heartfelt request: “Don’t forget me.” She will never be forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Santa Fe Cemetery c/o Mark & Mimi Priest, 3782 Raleigh Beard Road, Santa Fe, TN 38482.
