Dorothy J. Smith of Franklin, TN passed away peacefully on 11/26/2025.
Dorothy was a faithful servant of the Lord, and a devoted member of he Seventh-day Adventist faith. Her life was a testimony of Christian kindness, touching all who knew her with intelligence, laughter, and a sweet spirit.
Born in Jefferson County, Alabama on August 20 1937, Dorothy was introduced to the Adventist faith at a young age. She would often recount reading the Bible to older neighbors as a child and winning Bible trivia games by memorizing whole passages of scripture.
Dorothy, affectionately known as Granny, embodied the virtues of love, patience, and humility. She found joy in reading, word games, music, and spending time with friends and family. Granny always had an open door and a welcoming spirit for any one she met. Her favorite Bible verse was Psalm 27, which guided her through all of life's challenges.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Philip Smith, as well as her parents and several sisters and brothers. She is survived by her devoted children, Phyllicia (De), Pamela (Marlin), and Pettina (Shasone), her cherished grandchildren, Alyicia, Nalani, Alexander, Sean, and Nayeli, as well as a host of other family and friends who will miss her dearly.
A service celebrating Dorothy's live and entry into eternal peace will be held on December 7th at Riverside Chapel (800 Youngs Lane Nashville TN 37207). Viewing will begin at 2:00, and services will begin at 3:00 with repast to follow. Dorothy will be laid to rest at Oakwood University Memorial Gardens in Huntsville, AL (1 HL Cleveland Way, Huntsville AL 35806).
