Hohenwald

Dorothy Irene Staggs (Tanner), age 76, a lifelong resident of Hohenwald, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2025, at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville. Her kindness, strength, and unwavering faith left a lasting impression on all who knew and loved her.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with cremation arrangements.

Dorothy was born on August 9, 1948, in Pleasantville, Tennessee, to the late Emmett and Emma Tanner (Ayers). She moved to Hohenwald in the seventh grade and remained there throughout her life. She was married to her beloved husband, Wilson Staggs, for 57 years. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and caretaker, Dorothy poured her heart into her home and family. She was a proud homemaker who found deep joy in preparing meals especially her homemade biscuits, pinto beans, and fried chicken and in creating warm, welcoming memories for those she loved.

Her greatest passion, however, was her faith. Dorothy was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on January 20, 1979, and she remained an active and faithful servant for more than 46 years. She cherished her spiritual family and regularly attended meetings at the Spring Hill Kingdom Hall. She loved meeting new people, teaching others about the Bible, and continuously growing in her own understanding of the Scriptures.

Dorothy is survived by her loving husband, Wilson Staggs of Hohenwald, TN; her children, Tony (Tabitha) Staggs of Columbia, TN, and Brenda (Norwood) Jones of Columbia, TN; her grandchildren, Devin (Michelle) Staggs of Lewisburg, TN, Brittany Jones of Columbia, TN, and Cortney (Dustin) Turner of Lewisburg, TN; and her great-grandchildren, Henry Staggs, Maverick Turner, and Colt Turner. She is also survived by her brother, Sam Tanner of Hohenwald, TN.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Harlon Tanner, Ray Tanner, and Raymond Tanner; and her sisters, Janie Tanner, Virginia Kilpatrick, and Martha Qualls.

Dorothy will be remembered for her honesty, her deep commitment to her faith, and her willingness to help anyone in need. Above all, she found her greatest happiness in time spent with her family, whom she loved unconditionally.

Though her presence will be deeply missed, her faith, love, and legacy will live on in all the lives she touched.
