Carleen Rae Bennett Clarke, age 83, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2025, in Columbia, Tennessee. Born on May 31, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan, Carleen was the daughter of the late Garland and Viola Bennett.
Carleen married the love of her life, Dan Clarke, on May 28, 1968, in Arlington, Virginia. Their eight years together were filled with joy, laughter, and love until Dan’s passing in 1976. Though widowed young, Carleen’s devotion never wavered—she poured her heart into raising their son, David, who remained the center of her world.
A gifted cook and baker, Carleen expressed her love through the meals she prepared. Her mouthwatering potato salad and killer apple pie brought comfort and joy to many. Creative and thoughtful, she was an avid crocheter, sewer, and card maker; delighting friends and family with her handmade greeting cards and thoughtful gestures.
Carleen especially cherished time spent with her grandchildren. She created countless lasting memories with them—taking trips to Dollywood, teaching them to swim, preparing delicious meals, and showering them with unconditional love and warmth.
Carleen is survived by her loving son David (Michelle); her adored grandchildren Ryley, Josiah, and Jared; and her brothers, Bill and Keith. She was preceded in death by her husband Dan and her sister Denise.
Carleen will be remembered for her generous spirit, deep love for family, and the quiet beauty she brought into the world through the many lives she touched.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Carleen's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 1 Music Cir S Suite 230, Nashville, TN 37203
