Arne Lindegaard Rotne, beloved father, grandfather, and devoted family man, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026. His life was a remarkable journey marked by courage, curiosity, and a deep devotion to those he loved. Born on September 7, 1932, in Copenhagen, Denmark, Arne was the cherished son of Esther and Johannes Rotne. His education began in 1938 at De Forenede Kirker Skole in Copenhagen, and he later continued his studies in Kongsberg, Norway, where he received formal training in hospitality—training that shaped his lifelong career and reputation as a legendary hotelier.
In April 1951, at the age of eighteen, Arne migrated to the United States, embracing the promise of new opportunities. Later that same year, he received a draft notice and entered the U.S. Army in 1952—still a Danish citizen. He served proudly in the Third Field Artillery as an aircraft crew chief, demonstrating skill, dedication, and honorable service. By the time he received his honorable discharge in 1960, Arne had earned the rank of sergeant and had become an American citizen, embracing the country he now called home.
Arne was preceded in death by his two brothers, Per Rotne and Vagn Rotne. He is survived by his sister, Bente Fenger, who resides in Denmark and remains a loving connection to his roots.
A master of hospitality, Arne’s professional career spanned decades and left a lasting imprint on colleagues, guests, and communities. His refined intuition for guest experience, steady leadership, and dedication to excellence earned him a reputation as a legendary hotelier—one whose influence will endure for generations.
Arne’s most cherished role, however, was that of a father. He is survived by his three children: his son, Arne Lindegaard Rotne II, and his daughters, Kim McCord and Denise Witt. Arne is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Susie Rotne, and was immensely proud of their four children—Arne III, Samantha, Paige, and Julianne. Denise is the mother of three children—Jodi, Benny, and Kenny—each of whom held a special place in their grandfather’s heart.
His legacy continues through all of his grandchildren, including his great-grandchildren: Samantha’s daughter, Elizabeth, and Paige’s son, Joshua, who will forever remember their great-grandfather’s kindness, humor, and gentle presence.
In 2022, Arne entered a treasured final chapter when he moved to Williamsport, Tennessee, to live with his son’s family. Surrounded by warmth, laughter, and the daily rhythm of family life, he spent his later years in a home filled with love and connection.
To all who knew him, Arne will be remembered as a steady, thoughtful, and gracious man—one who lived with integrity, embraced opportunity, and loved his family above all else.
He will be forever cherished, always remembered, and deeply missed.
